Carts Vermont Garden Cart

My Carts Vermont garden cart is indispensable.  When it arrived at my house as a gift from my thoughtful husband, I balked.

“I don’t need this!”  “It’s too expensive!” “I can just use the wheelbarrow we already have!”

I was wrong. If you are not familiar with the Carts Vermont garden cart, it is a wooden cart with two bicycle-like tires. It has a large, flat bed and mine has a rear ‘gate’ that slides out. It has two u-shaped metal ‘legs’ in the front. The cart is much more stable than a wheelbarrow since it has four ‘legs’ rather than three on the wheelbarrow.

For a person with disabilities, a wheelbarrow can lead to injury

Wheelbarrows are a bad choice for someone with back and joint pain because the wheelbarrow is so unstable.

You have to use your core muscles to balance as you keep the barrow from tipping side to side while pushing the wheelbarrow forward.

If your disability causes instability on side-to-side motion, you are creating a scenario for disaster.  Either you will lose the load you are carrying or, trying to prevent that, you will cause injury to your back, knees, hands, arms, etc.

My cart goes with me everywhere

I have the large Carts Vermont garden cart.  It goes with me almost every time I go out in the garden.  When we moved to our current house and I had fences built, I made sure the gates were always wide enough for my cart. If you can’t get the cart where you need it, then it doesn’t do much good.  If you have existing narrower gates,  the cart comes in medium and large sizes.

I have had my cart for over 15 years and have never replaced any part of it.  I always worried that the wood would not hold up, but it has hauled large logs and boulders and loads of gravel and decomposed granite.

The bottom definitely shows its use but is not in need of replacing yet.  I have tried to be very diligent about keeping it stored indoors because I didn’t want the wood to rot, but I will admit that there have been times when it got abandoned outside and maybe sat out with a load of tree and rose trimmings, in the rain for a few days before I ran across it and said “Oops, that shouldn’t be out here”.

My cart has hard tires, not rubber tubes, so it goes across any terrain and I never have to worry about a flat.

Having this cart has enabled me to carry far more weight than my back and knees can handle

The most amazing thing about this cart is how easy it is to push or pull!  I swear, the more weight you have in the cart, the easier it is to move.  And when you get where you are going, you just raise the back panel and dump.

The cart moves easily on my sloped yard.  Having this cart has enabled me to move and carry far more weight than my back and knees would normally allow.

It is my constant gardening companion.  If only I could get it to follow me around and to retrieve things from the garage!

When you look at the Carts Vermont website, www.cartsvermont.com, their company philosophy states that they want to manufacture the very best garden carts on the market and to make all your yard chores easier. In my opinion, they have definitely achieved this goal.  That’s why the Vermont Garden Cart gets my first Garden Tools that I Love award!
