All I want for Christmas…

I like to dream big when it comes to the garden. My annual letter to Santa typically consists of outrageous and practical gardening gifts.

My outrageous wish list includes:

  • Greenhouse (a perennial on my list)
  • She-shed (beautifully designed, with potting bench, room for all my tools and a few lovely antiques)
  • A trip to Hawaii (to study Korean Natural Farming with the masters)
  • Full-time gardener (like having a nanny – you’re still making the important parenting decisions and taking part in their life – but someone else is changing the diapers and potty-training)

My practical list includes tools for the garden and tools to keep me healthy and strong so I can garden:

  • Bellicon mini tramp (to keep me moving in the long winter months while I watch gardening shows)
  • Beautiful pots and a fountain and chimes for my Japanese Garden
  • Labor to move my vegetable beds (since I’ve come up with a better design)
  • Sprinkler system for vegetable beds
  • Lots of sturdy but pretty garden clothes – with pockets
  • Gardening shoes/boots
  • Sharp snips, pruners, and loppers
  • Garden totes and haulers
  • Gardening books
  • Robot vacuum (so it can do the household chores while I garden)

But there’s a third element to my Christmas list.  These are the things I want that I already have:

  • A lovely, warm home on an acreage, surrounded by gardens and pets
  • A few trusted friends
  • Family nearby
  • Food put up from the garden
  • Good health

The first two lists include things that are delightful. They help make my gardening life a grand adventure and ease the chores, making the responsibilities more fun. They take the garden and my health to the next level.

But the third list, the things I already have, I am grateful for every day of my life.  I like to include them in my list of wants to remind me how lucky I am.

What’s on your Christmas wish list this year?  I hope Santa is good to you!
